Mattress Firm’s Jonathan Sider Wins 2020 Houston CIO of the Year ORBIE Award

HOUSTON (August 3, 2020) – Mattress Firm, America’s largest mattress specialty retailer, is proud to announce that Jonathan Sider, Chief Information Officer, received the Large Enterprise ORBIE Award at the 22nd annual Houston CIO of the Year Awards on July 31.

The award recognizes Sider’s excellence in Information Technology leadership, such as integrating the ERP/POS platforms from acquisitions such as of Sleepy’s (1050 stores, $780M valuation) and Sleep Train (310 stores, $425M valuation) into Mattress Firm’s enterprise systems. These two major integrations brought in 25+ years of historical data and gave Mattress Firm an enriched holistic view into the mattress buying cycle and lifetime value. To help with the integration process, Jon consolidated 4 ERPS to 1 (Microsoft Dynamics AX), that helped scale the system and enable new functionalities to support all of our stores, consolidated 50 telecom providers into just 3, saving $4.5M annually while significantly reducing daily outages from close to 100 down to less than 1 across all of our stores. Sider also helped in developing the “roadshow” team, that led to the successful sale that took the company from public to private, and his experience leading startups and scaling IT architecture and infrastructure helped bring our exponential growth from $50M to $3B in revenue.

“This award is a tribute to the fantastic IT team at Mattress Firm and their tireless commitment to innovation and thought leadership,” said Sider. “I’m honored to accept this award on behalf of my team and the entire Mattress Firm organization.”

The HoustonCIO award recognizes chief information officers in seven key categories – Leadership, Super Global, Global, Large Enterprise, Enterprise, Corporate and Nonprofit.

“The HoustonCIO ORBIE winners demonstrate the value great leadership creates. Especially in these uncertain times, CIOs are leading in unprecedented ways and enabling the largest work-from-home experiment in history,” according to Monique Cook, Executive Director of HoustonCIO. “The ORBIE Awards are meaningful because they are judged by peers – CIOs who understand how difficult this job is and why great leadership matters.”
